How To Be Part of Anti-Bullying in the 2011 School Year

To all children and teens beginning a new school year:

If you see someone who is struggling to make friends or is being bullied because they’re shy, have few friends, not as pretty or dressed in the trendiest clothes, this is your opportunity to contribute to a solution instead of being part of the problem.

Say hello, smile at them on the way to class, or show a new student to their class. Ask someone who appears lonely to join you during study hall or lunch period, or even visit each other after school.

If they’re struggling in a subject which you excel, why not offer to tutor them? Many times, they’ll be flattered you’d asked and happy to help.

We don’t know what anyone is facing outside of school hours, and a little kindness can make a huge difference in the lives of others, particularly those who don’t adjust as well to situations as well as others.

Many lifelong friendships also began with one small gesture during school years, so take a chance instead of being judgmental of what’s on the outside.
