The University of South Florida (USF) area is on alert after a man committed several sexual batteries and home invasions at apartment complexes in north Tampa. USF posted the above warning on its web site.
Hillsbourgh County Schools announced earlier today that its public schools in the USF area are open, but will have additional security on hand due to the search for a suspect. Several schools near USF and in New Tampa are on modified lockdown. Classes are being held with increased security, but there will be no outdoor activities.

UPDATE: Charlie Christopher Bates, 24, has been identified as the suspect in a series of home invasions and sexual batteries near USF this morning. He is still at large. Additional details can be found at this link.
